Time for a new Riv, David! I know my bike doesn't make any sense with so many
other Rivs to choose from for flat or pullback bars (and keep standover
clearance), but I started with, "Hey, I'd like to have a more traditional 700c
Riv road frame, and that orange sure is pretty." Then I sized up to
This makes me consider putting my original Brooks saddle - a pre-ages flyer -
on my Worm Wagon dadbike.

Ahh, that newer, alloy Softride is more pleasing to my eye. I have one that
used to live on my MB-0. As my neck became increasingly painful in the bent

Joe,
Frankendini 2 looks good. I meant to post when you had picks of the
original build with the original Softride stem. I think that one was the
warranty recall stem. I had gotten one, used and Softride warrantied it and
I got a gold aluminum Aheadset style one as a replacement. There was an

This reply is not specific to the bike, and as long as it's orange, I'm in,
but it prompted me to finally post a story I saw on CBS This Morning some
months ago. The story of why we love tinkering with bikes (and whatever
else).

Okay, this has nothing to do specifically with the bike, and as long as its
orange, I'm in, but the JOY we get from tinkering with bikes is what it is
really all about. I have been meaning to post this story, and this is the

I haven’t seen a Softride stem in quite a while. Great addition and love the
name. Shouldn’t you get some bigger bolts to stick out of the neck of that
stem? Halloween’s just around the corner!

Amusing data point I just rediscovered after forgetting most of what I once
knew about the Softride suspension stem: It was originally called Frankenstem.
I didn't know that when I named this thread 😁

I put on there is kind of an experiment to see what's possible with that very
long stem; I like it for what's becoming an increasingly problematic arthritic

Way to go Joe! An admirable build indeed. Also very sensible.
Sorry to plant the seed, but it is simply inevitable that this bike will
feature a Riv handlebar soon! (Albatross/Billy)
With every road bike I have owned I was tempted to toss out the drop bar

her, she's awesome, she plays drums) for inspiration. I've been fascinated by
the "that looks like a Jenny bike" look to her bikes for quite a while, and she
really motivated me to go my own way with mine. Thanks, Je
Joe, don’t sell the Roadini. You’re having too much fun with it! Looking

Enjoy!

I feel ya, Justin. I've always liked bikes that when you look at them you
think, "That is set up *exactly* as the rider wanted it." That was my intention
with this frame, both to match my kind of riding and to get away from the
standard Riv "look".

I want to make sure you know - I love that you made a bike to ride like you
want it to ride! Too much focus on making bikes look and appear a certain way
to fit in to a certain look. The best bike is the one you ride!

Hehe, yep. To me it looks like my old 700c-wheel Bridgestone XO-5 with the '93
