Amusing data point I just rediscovered after forgetting most of what I once knew about the Softride suspension stem: It was originally called Frankenstem. I didn't know that when I named this thread 😁
Btw, this thing was probably crap as a mountain bike suspension - there's no appreciable damping, it just goes down and pops back up - but it's butter on the slightly grainy, choppy pavement around here. It's obviously not much to look at, but there's a marked difference in smoothing out the ride on this bike.
