agreed. my 1x sam, also in indiana, is also set up with the shifter cable
crossing to the left of the headtube. never liked the look of the big
non-crossed loops from the cockpit for some reason.

my go-to is birkenstock - good support, especially for my high arches, and the
right amount of stiffness. the standard foam outsoles can get torn up by pedals
relatively quickly (though they still function fine), but they grip pretty

I have one I would consider selling you. Used, but clean and in really good
shape.

Looks like it sold. At least, the posting has been deleted. I emailed and
texted the seller, as I was quite interested in buying, but never heard
back. I definitely regarded it as a screaming deal, though I'm also not
convinced from what I could see in the photos that it is in the "excellent"

That looks good! This is very similar to what I'm thinking. And that White
Industries crank is just incredible... I've always wanted the "excuse" to
buy one. Maybe this is it!

Good point. Especially with 11-50 cassettes out there. What other gears
could one possibly ever need?

Oddly black and modern, I agree. My Sam is black, so I figure the black
will be somewhat less jarring (to my eyes, anyway) than if it were orange
or blue, but I kind of think it's cool, too. Some of the Blue Lug builds of
Rivs and, especially, Crusts are inspiring me. No complaints about the

Anyone running a full-on modern Shimano MTB drivetrain on a Sam? I realize
there is a clash in styles, but a 2x10 Deore set up intrigues me. As does the
clash in styles, to be honest.

So I take it the procedure is to slip off the grips, levers, shifters, pull
the bar out, clamp the new bar in, and clamp the levers and grips back on?
Or do you have the other set of bars already on a stem and just swap out
the whole thing? Interesting. Obviously trickier with road bars. I have

Always something else, indeed, Tom. Have 46c Noodles perched on a Dirt Drop on

Like many, I would imagine, I first learned of Rivendell via the musings of

Who runs Ahearne+Map bars and do you dig them for rides of 50+ miles? I've
read plenty of people calling them comfy, but curious whether that's just
on shorter, townie rides or even for longer distances. They would appear to

Very nice, and those Chocomoose bars look right at home. Now you're
tempting me into a bar swap and my Clem isn't even here yet! Will be on

There's a thought - I do love a good handlebar swap! To me, no single part
changes the personality of a bike quite so drastically, which can certainly
keep things fun and interesting. I want to give Boscos a good fair shake
first, in light of Zed Martinez's excellent Clem review and the fact tha
Thanks for this - that's exactly my quandary. I like the adjustability

than the moose version) and the additional real estate next to the stem for
the forward grip, but I do worry about flex. 58cm Boscos + 120mm stem = a

The actual order page makes no mention of it, but this page notes the 2016
batch is non-moose: http://www.rivbike.com/product-p/f-clemsmith.htm.

Just noticed that the 2016 Clems (one of which is my anxiously

non-bullmoose Boscos. I suppose it's silly to be disappointed, but I have
always liked the integrated look of the various bullmoose variants, and
