I agree, the best short ride near downtown is the granite and boardwalk
trails on Ladybird Lake. Mostly stay on the south side of the lake, the
path has several breaks in it on the north side. It gets less crowded as
you ride east toward Roy G Guerrero Park.

Just off the top of my head here, but the biggest difference I remember of
is that the older models has curved seat stays and the newer ones don't.
Older came with Bosco Bullmoose bars instead of stem+bar combo, Shimano
Altus derailleurs instead of Deore, and maybe included pedals and seat. I

It looks a little like a backwards dump truck / Muppet mouth. Worked well
for me even without a rack. I liked how it kept the load close to the
headtube.

In my experience barefoot/minimalist type shoes with little-to-no heel

Schwalbe Marathon Supremes are great tires and score high on your first 2

I second the Weehoo recommendation. It's recumbent enough the kiddo can
fall asleep, they can pedal when they want to, and it's 1 wheel so super
maneuverable. Takes about as much room as a normal bike in the garage.

I found the Clem to feel more cruiser-y than the 90s MTBs. It is a
fantastic off road and all rounder, but it's harder to jook the whole bike
around. Handlebar choice makes a big difference too; I found the Boscos
weren't my favorite for trail riding. That said, it's super tough and very

I'm a big fan of Lems; their sole is a thick enough to be comfortable on
pedals and give good grip. Still zero drop, well made, and still pretty
minimal-feeling.
I love Soft Star shoes too, but haven't tried any of their boots or
fur-lined options.

Glad you are enjoying the bike and kept the Willie sticker. :)
Here are a couple pix of it with boscos (I bought the Clem new, then
happened upon a Homer and didn't want to keep both).

I've been using the same set of $20 Odyssey pedals daily for about 3 years and
haven't really found a pair I like better.

I'm 87 PBH, 5'10" and have a Craigslist-found 61 Homer. The ~2cm standover

be; it's totally unnoticeable during actual riding. The seat is pretty low,
such that even the small Riv Saddlesack rubs the tire and interferes w

I'd be interested! I live in north central (Burnet & Anderson) and work a
bit norther (Burnet & Braker). Walnut creek is good, northwest park, Austin
State Hospital/Central Market, Pease Park, and on down by the lake are all
good. Depending on east-west orientation it's easy to get down to Goval
