I use silver down tube shifters with 9 speed and generally get great results. Having said that let me offer some caveats. My experience suggests: friction shifting works better with good components; I use ultegra cassettes, and conex chains. I have experienced problems with budget equipment.

All three of my bikes have different iterations of the Terry Liberator Y saddle. Ages range from about 10 years old to one year old. They change the mold and design every few years it seems. The style of riding is more a "just ride" type. Some commuting, general getting out there and goofing off
