If it's the same hub that Grant mentions, then I sure hope that the
new Reader comes out before the sale ends over at VO. I was interested
in the hub as well for I too am in the market for a dyno system. I'd
only be needing the lighting for commuting purposes, but I'd hate to

I marked the biggest lump on the front tire, took it off, and reinstalled
it. I didn't swap the wheels, but I did flip the tire 180°, so that the
drive/non-drive sides were now reversed. Checked seating and inflated.
Still lumpy but in different places. I plan to investigate further,

I have been hard-pressed to feel any noticeable drag on the dynamo
hubs I own, so even though this looks like a well-made hub, I feel the
switchable feature would be wasted on me.
For about $65 you can buy a SRAM iLight. I love mine... it's smooth
and reliable, and I can't feel any drag.

Just a wacky hunch... Could the "Richard S" indicate this bike was
originally built (by Waterford) for Richard Schwinn?
That color is awesome, especially up close... that's a real find
indeed. Make sure to post photos when your build is complete.

Well done Mike and Lynne.
That was a bugger of a day.

Nice saddlebag!.
I would argue that back in the day, if those days were pre-1984 or so,
we were all Bobish.
After 1984 the cycling industry moved away from verstility towards
specificity, from small shops to large factories.
Of course most cyclists went with them but for a small fringe strange

For the record: I broke three Nitto butterfly cages after relatively few
miles holding 28 oz Eleven Gear thermos (= double wall) water bottles, and
they were designed for regular bike cages. King Iris cages are far more
secure and, for that matter, far more quiet.
Point of this mss: Nitto cages ar
I have both types cages and the Laken bottles are silent in each. The Kings
are super solid, even off-road.

I thought some of you might appreciate this.
I ventured into the attic at request of the wife looking for a
particular book.
Not having any luck in the places I expected, the search widened into
some "time capsule" boxes. Stumbling across some old comic books and
drawings I had done back in grade
It seems that the 'switchable hub' have a 48mm flange to flange width

it, too. Very tempting.

For those of you who have used them (or I guess ridden in close
proximity to them), do the Laken aluminum watter bottles sold by RBW
tend to rattle in cages such as the King and the Nitto? Or pretty
solid/silent in those? Thanks. -- Forrest

I purchased one and it cost $120 with shipping due to their 5th
anniversary sale and 20% off pricing. I plan to lace mine into my
current rim and think it will be fine. The Son has good seals and
durability plus its been proven. Its roughly double the price but may
not give double the miles. I wait
I sprung, wholly needlessly, for a SON 20R (wheel built by Rich) and I have
not yet regretted spending the additional money. And I don't even ride very
far with it. I'd say that, for someone like you, the SON is the natural
choice. And spuds ain't bad: potato soup, latkes, french fries, potato

Hey All,
I have two brand new Brooks B17 saddles I'd like to sell. Both are
still in the original packaging (w/ box) and have never been used/
mounted. One is black and one is brown. I'm asking $80 shipped for
each. They were for a couple of projects for friends bikes that fell
apart, and I'm look
I see they finaly turned up at VO:

Lot's of people have talked about it but since it's new asking for a
review is premature so lets speculate wildly!
After we left Birkenfeld there was this thick light steady rain that
hung over us until Vernonia. When we got back on Timber Rd it cleared
up but we were all just feeling a little cooked.
At Glenwood I used the Magic 8 Ball app on my phone to ask if it would
rain on us before the finish at Forest
Arrrgh! That's very tempting. We "might" get to 50F this week.
Maybe even in a couple weeks, the studded tires could come off.
Was just looking through my photos of SD last night. I wannanother
vacation. Wah. (Baltimore was great last month, but cold enough for
no riding.)
