They will probably function, but it will be less than optimal. Long- pull levers will require more force from your hand for a given amount of force applied by the brake against the rim. They may also feel touchy, like the brake will engage with the slightest squeezing of the lever. On Jan 6, 7:5

The "linear" brakes you refer to are actually "linear pull brakes," which is just the technical name for v-brakes. One of the main differences between v-brakes and normal center-pull cantilever brakes is that in order to produce equivalent force, the cable is pulled farther in v-brakes than it is

if the road frame is 132mm, you might not need to respace. If it's a steel frame, you can usually just spread the chainstays ok. If you do need to respace, I would suggest just getting thinner spacers. You may have to get a shorter axle though depending on the frame you have. On Tue, Jan 6, 20
