Sometimes when I want to test the email functionality of an email server or
smtp machine, I telnet to it on port 25 then issue some smtp directives.
For example, my usual sequence is as follows:

Another really good point here is that setting a softlimit to 128MB kind
of defeats the purpose of having a softlimit in the first place. Set it
back down to a reasonable level and check your log files (as Oliver
suggests) for clues.
