Hey, there's something that's been bugging me.

Sometimes when I want to test the email functionality of an email server or
smtp machine, I telnet to it on port 25 then issue some smtp directives.

For example, my usual sequence is as follows:

Helo xxxx.xxxx.xxx
Mail from: blahblah
Rcpt to: blahblah
Data

Textblahblahbodyblahblahtexttextext
.

AS you can see, I enter a "period" on it's own line, when I'm finished with
the body. The machine will let me know that it accepts the mail for
delivery. But then ! When I go check the recipient's inbox, I see an email
with no body, no "from" or "to" populated ( in Outlook). A portion of the
body text (like, the first line only) shows up in the internet headers.

What's the problem here? I thought the sequence as described above was the
correct smtp sequence.
