Kmail works fine with gmail at my place. I use the following settings
for sending mail
TLS / PLAIN / 587
Have you checked the 'server requires authentication' tick? You have
to fill your complete gmail address (ie. [EMAIL PROTECTED]) and password
in that field.
Hope this solves your problem.

Name : gmail
Host : smtp.gmail.com
Port : 25
Server requires auth. checked, full email address
given with '[EMAIL PROTECTED]'.
Security TLS. Authentication method : Plain.
I just configured it, and chanced to see your mail.
Test mail to yahoo went just fine.

Roger that! Faced the same problem as you did. Tried asking the gmail guys
too. They were no help at all. Now I use the web interface only.
