Issue :
BSNL EVDO modem was not detected by NetworkManager on Ubuntu Intrepid
( 8.10 ) though its automatically recognized by hal.
Here's what I did.

There's a way to make your fonts look even better ( subjective of
course ) if you are using Ubuntu 8.04.
By default the BCI is not enabled so any hints provided by the
typographer are sort of ignored.
However there's a neat way - the auto-hinter - to overcome this and
use the hints.

I thought I'll share this piece of info, albeit a little old.
I for one hate installing msttcorefonts and turning on the BCI in freetype.
Part of the problem - In linux the deja vu and bitstream fonts aren't
correct replacement for arial / times new roman etc.
