There won't be a release for postgresql 8.2 for ubuntu 6.10
you can :
1 upgrade to ubuntu feisty with sudo "update-manager -c -d"
2 request a backport
3 do the backport
tgresql servers in the same machine
postgresql listens on port 5432 for the first installed postgresql
and in port 5433 for the second installed postgresql
try using port 5433 for postgresql 8.2

If my apps work with 8.1 and need libpq.so.4, when I upgrade to 8.2
this libpq.so.4 will be talking to postgresql 8.2 without problems ?

is it safe to go back to 8.1.4 ?
or can we safely wait for the fix ?

Encode the image on base64 and inseert on a text field
if you use Bytea it needs to be encoded and the size stored will be
more than base64 encoded
if you store the image on disk you need to keep the consistency between
