I'm using Nero Burning Rom to burn some CD's which have tracks which run
together--most notably, Pink Floyd and Chicago.
No matter what I do I cannot get the transitions between tracks to go smoothly.
I've even tried a couple different ideas in GoldWave.

The trick is that when you make adjustments, you close down winamp and
restart it. I've had the same problem and that seems to work.

I have two machines with onboard sound cards. These are disabled, as I am
using better sound cards for music and such.

You might try turning off everything in the gap killer. Then go to the
crossfate tab and make sure the first checkbox is checked. You'll tab once
and get a value box. I think I have mine set at -8. I had the same problem
with Chicago Dialog Par I and II.

On another note, is there a way, with a tuner card or any other means, I can
control anything besides the DVR feature on my dish network via computer?
As it is, unless I'm incredibly stupid the DVR screen looks terrible.

Using windows explorer I cut and pasted files into the music folder of the
recorder. They show up on the computer when I look at the recorder as a
disk drive; but cannot access them on the recorder in the music folder.

u use the up or down arrows to move to a folder which will be the artist,
then the right arrow to move the album list. Then right arrow again to get
to the list of files in that folder.
The intro playback setting is under display and sound menu.
