SOUND MAX is not a good sound card.
My DELL system has one in it too as well.
I don't use mine anymore because you can't monitor the live recordings and
or live chats.
She can either use an internal sound card or an external USB sound card.
SOUND BLASTER would be a good place to start

No, I have tried and couldn't do it with SOUND MAX: I couldn't get it to
work for me either.
So I installed an internal sound card so that I can monitor my recordings
and live chats.
I am so sorry, there is no other way to work around that.

Thanx for all the help! The problem seems to be solved now. There seems to
be some electric interference coming from an electric fence nearby.
Connecting the amplifier to a different socket solved the problem.
