I heard from the homeowner at 5554 Howard Gnesen Road that the Varied Thrush,
first reported on November 27, was seen again this morning after their return
from a 9-day trip. The bird hadn't been present during the days before their
departure so the new sighting comes as an unexpec

on the ground below our backyard feeder in south Minneapolis, 8 blocks south of
the Lake Street Bridge and along the West River Parkway for approximately 10-15
minutes. After it took refuge within an adjacent yew we

While birding Benton County with my parents and brother this afternoon, I
found a Varied Thrush. We observed it along 160th St NW where it crosses
the Little Rock Creek. It was actively foraging with a flock of robins in
the buckthorn on the north side of the road.

We have had a female Varied Thrush coming to our backyard multiple times a
day, every day, for the past week. She primarily feeds on the ground
outside our garage side door but if there are too many squirrels she will go
to our tray feeder. She will sometimes perch in our apple or dogwood trees

I believe I saw a Varied Thrush this evening while I was headed south on
Hennepin Avenue next to The Walker Sculpture Garden near the Armajani
pedestrian bridge. It landed on a sign while I was stopped in traffic. It’s
tail was wagging and appeared bluish. I saw the eye band and black band on
Curt Rawn and I tried again from 3:30-5:00pm this evening with no luck. Three
other birders left as we arrived, and I assumed they saw nothing either as they
did not mention anything to us. Per eBird and MOU seasonal report, the Varied
Thrush has not been observed since Tuesday evening.

The thrush is still here. We have been observing it daily (and frequently)

There is a Varied Thrush visiting a feeder at a residence just south of
Diamond Lake in Kandiyohi County. It is visiting a feeder at 4659 Diamond
Lane. Visitors are welcome, and the feeders can be viewed from your car in

seems to be around, given Scott Meyers report from the 19th. One crab apple

The Varied Thrush was at his post around noon today in the crabapple tree in

I just stumbled onto a beautiful Varied Thrush in Eagle's Nest County Park. I

There is a Varied Thrush that is frequenting a feeder at 9707 35th St SW in
SW Olmsted County that is a mile south of Salem Corners and then a mile
west. The owner is Russell Turner. The bird is most always located behind
his house in a smaller tree in the back yard or at the feeders right behind
Varied Thrush was spotted again today about 5 or 6 houses west of 47th and
Oakley. I believe it to be same individual spotted by Janet Riegle & Laura
Erickson on 12/15 and Don Kienholz on 12/19. I spotted it at 2:00 PM today,

Yesterday Wednesday December 19 I observed the Varied Thrush found on the
Duluth CBC 12/15. It was in a crabapple tree 4 or 5 houses west of the
intersection of 47th Ave E and Oakley Street in the Lakeside neighborhood. The
tree is right next to the road and the bird was tolerant of vehicles. La

outside Walker (eating dried fruit) for the past two days. Because of my
personal health issues I am unable to travel but will ask him to photograph the
bird.
Richard called Carpenter Nature Center to let us know that the last time the

Judy Chucker and I viewed the Varied Thrush in the yard at 1 Blackbird
Trail around 2:30 Saturday afternoon. The owner was just arriving back
home and he spotted the bird in the spruce tree. The bird quietly sat on a
limb of the spruce tree until we left the yard ~3:15.

A varied thrush appeared at a private property today, 7 miles ENE of Park

I went to Swift County to look for the Snowy Owl that had been previously
reported. I did not find the Snowy Owl after a two hour search but there
were a number of other interesting species in the area as follows:
Today, January 31, I refound the Varied Thrush at house on the SW side of Elk
Lake, north of Zimmerman. He did not come to the feeders, but after some
searching I found him resting, then preening in a conifer behind the front yard
feeders.

and saw a Varied Thrush that had been feeding on the ground in their back yard

The Townsend's Solitaire was reported at Ann Lake/Sand Dunes on Sunday.
In addition, I have a second report of a Northern Saw-whet Owl at Ann Lake.
It was initially reported in December .
Saw the Varied Thrush (very briefly) near Sherburne NWR on Friday afternoon,
missed the Townsend's Solitaire at Ann Lake.
Saw the Black-headed Grosbeak in Duluth yesterday (life bird for both of
us) - missed the Spotted Towhee near Bruno. Enjoyed Great Black-Backed,

Hey birders,
I was notified of a Varied Thrush visiting a feeding station in rural Nicollet
County and was able to verify it this afternoon. The bird has apparently been
around for a couple of weeks and I placed a picture in the "Recently Seen"
section on the MOU website. The owners seem frie
Had a chance over lunch hour to view the previously mentioned Varied Thrush
near Sherburne Refuge. It is a gorgeous male that spent nearly 15 minutes
in and around a feeder station.
