An update on the Varied Thrush at Veterans Park (Hennepin Co.): Long story short, she was quite uncooperative. Curt Rawn, Ron Taube, and a handful of other birders tried for the bird this morning from about 9:30am to 1:15pm. For about the first 1.5 hours no robins were seen, then we detected the flock as they arrived on the north side by a row of spruce trees west of the mini golf course (still off of Portland Ave). The flock numbered around 30+ birds. Around 11:15am Ron believes he briefly spotted the Varied Thrush getting chased by a robin, although it was only for a few seconds and no one else saw it. The robins hung around most of the time after that. There were some fruiting trees in the neighborhoods west of the park, but the main fruiting tree people have spotted the bird at in the past is running low on berries. Good luck to anyone trying for her!
