If you have VHS why dont you record at half size and the encode at have

That would speed up things, and you
I've asked a couple of questions on the list over the last few days, and have
been directed to features in CVS, which aren't in the stable 1.6.1 which I'm
using.
So, how stable is CVS these days? Heavy development, or ready for regular
users to start beta testing?

Anyone look at mythtv.org for PVR?
Looks really great, but if you have a non-v4l, ie, zoran based, card it's
unusable (since it hinges on software encoding). Same for DV. I suppose this
is realted to inablility to playback realtime while capturing even though
theoretically output to a card (lavpla

The zoran driver is fully v4l compliant. Capturing using video4linux'
API is also supported (raw capture). You just need to do some kernel
memory tweaking since the zr3
I was thinking in terms of recording with DV OR zoran and playing back

I For Zoran (rec) + Zoran for (play)
The zoran driver is fully v4l compliant. Capturing using video4linux'
memory tweaking since the zr360x7 can't handle non-contiguous (paged)
play fine with the zoran driver/cards.
I'm seeing you guys talking about "zoran". Is this the Optibase

Ah, ok, that changes things completely.

Impossible. the zoran codec can only be used by one process at

No, it's the zr36057/zr36067 chipset, which is used on
DC10+/Buz/LML33/etc. cards (hardware MJPEG codec boards).

I ran one test where I was recording from a lml33 and a dc10+ simultaneously
with no frame drops.
Are you saying one process cannot play on one Zoran while recording on a
different one?

Oh, that's possible. Just not both on the same card. :-).

It's my understanding that the total bitrate for DVD-quality audio/video must be between 2 Mbps and 8 Mbps. I tend to encode my DVD video at 7500 kbps and the audio at 384 kbps, so with the extra space taken by multiplexing, I tend to get under the limit.
The errors you're getting are because ther
Cheers Steven,
I kind of suspected this is the case so have just re-encoded my video at 8000
kbps, but since my computer's not so quick it's taken over the weekend so I have
yet to try re mplex-ing. I'll let people know what happens.
Cheers again,
Slowly it's all becoming clearer

You may have the same problem, though8000 kbps video + 256 kbps audio > 8192 kbps already, even without the extra space mplex needs.
For all the fun that DVDs promise, I have to say, I've found that for most things I'm happy with VCDs. (Not even SVCDsjust normal old VCDs.) They take 3 hour
I had rewritten one of the drivers once and studied it thoroughly. If I
remember correctly, from the device driver's view of memory, you can make
non-contiguous portions of physical memory appear as contiguous with VM.
