Dear Misc@,
I have written an e-mail earlier about this but as my previous address
turned out to be blacklisted by quite a few providers I am trying again
in the hope that perhaps it will reach more people this time:

Dear Robert,
I had a similar issue with the 2015 Macbook Pro and there's a
workaround: you need to wait A LOT, like 2+ hours for it to get through
the "being stuck at sd0" phase, then install, wait out the similarly
long first boot, and then recompile the kernel with a patched acpi.c.
Patch is ava
Hello Jan,
Thanks for the reply. There's a specific bug with the 2015 Macbook Pro
that causes a massive ACPI timeout on boot. It was referenced in the
previous message of mine. (see here:

Hi!
Just for clarity -- is this the A1278?
Bluetooth: it won't work. OpenBSD simply does not have any
Bluetooth support since 5.5.
WiFi - this is very often an issue with Apple hardware. Some cards are
supported by the `bwfm` firmware, and if your model uses a PCIe
connector then you can usuall

I'm going to leave it there overnight and see whether it moves beyond
it tomorrow morning.
Not quite sure what to do. Any further suggestions?

It would be interesting to see a diff between relevant bits. Some
suggested it could be an ACPI related issue; the "two hour" bug.
Uncommenting some bits in acpi.c as su

Similarly, can you see a difference in the output of `wsconsctl` on the
two machines?

Given Heise's reputation under normal circumstances, is it worth
flagging this up with the editor? They might pull the article.

I recently switched from `toot` to `tut` -- both are in Ports. Both
have TUI's, `toot` also can be used from CLI. Of the two `tut` is more
feature-rich but slightly slower.

Doing a websearch it seems the JMS578 is a very broadly recommended
controller chipset.
I hope this helps.
With very best wishes,

Dear All,
I have tried to reinstall OpenBSD 7.6 on my 2015 Macbook Air (A1465) but I
cannot seem to be able to boot with keydisk encryption enabled. I have had no
issues running / installing 7.6 -current with FDE enabled in the past, however
with passphrase rather than keydisk. I'd like to give
