Thanks for the reply. There's a specific bug with the 2015 Macbook Pro
that causes a massive ACPI timeout on boot. It was referenced in the
previous message of mine. (see here:

 There is a patch, but I am trying to figure out how to automatically
 boot a patched kernel on upgrade, rather than have to wait out the
 long boot and then patch and install a custom kernel.
