You can change the duration of any clip in the inspector. In the first tab is a Duration edit box. Should be the first one. All you have to do it type what you want then close the window and you are good to go! I always test my project every time I make a change just to make sure it work

It sounds like all you should need to do it make sure that you go into the clip list and make sure you have the title instead of the clip itself selected. Once you are sure which one you are on it should work just fine. I promise that once you get the hang of it will come very quick and
