Yes, I assumed that that was what you were doing. You can’t format the drive
you have already booted from so you have to reboot holding down command+r

tab you need as there is no dedicated format tab available. So you press the
erase tab and you will have to erase your chosen disc again and only then will
you be given a popup button where you choose the schem
