Ray, basically you just use the space bar alone rather than using VO-space. I
think that's the sticking point for most people.
I reported the issue to Dropbox and they said they've forwarded it to the
engineers to look at.

Could you again describe what you did? Think I missed it last time.
That's what I get for being in a rush.

It's true that I never bothered about checking and unchecking subdirectories;
I've basically kept everything on a single level so that I could quickly access
any directory without nesting. But yes, for those using a lot of

For anyone that's interested, it seems Cheryl's method works for the root
directories of one's Dropbox folder, but not sub-directories. At least that
seems to be how it's working for me. Unchecking sub-directories somehow
un-checks the main directories, which results in me needing to re-check th
Thanks, Cheryl. That certainly seems to be the key. I tried that but somehow I
must have unchecked a lot of boxes inadvertently (despite being very careful),
as after Dropbox applied the changes I lost most of my folders from this Mac.
I've now tried to re-check them and am now waiting for those
That's brilliant. I never thought of abandoning the VO commands and just using
spacebar. I'm going to try this although I don't really want to change my
Dropbox too much. Thanks a lot.
By the way, is the quick nav part really necessary? Or could you just do it
without quick nav I wonder.

Okay, here is what I posted about this a couple of months ago. I have been busy
and haven't been reading this thread so I apologize if this has already been
tried and no longer works. It isn't ideal but it is doable if it still works.
You have to do this blind, but then what else is new - grin!
I haven't been following this thread but I've done selective syncing and I
posted how I did it at one point. If I can find it, I'll repost.

I tried the mouse keys approach, but it isn't a fixed distance you have to
move. The mouse is at the end of the folder name, not the beginning, and so
depending on the folder name length, well, you get it.

Hi.
We ought to contact dropbox about this issue. I love dropbox, but it is not the
most accessible program I have seen.
Best regards Annie.

Hmm, thanks for letting me know, Phil. I think it's beyond my scripting
ability, for now, but I'm wondering whether mouse keys might give me some
results, if it's just essentially moving the mouse over to the left a little as
you say. Anyway, either that or sighted assistance.
Thanks for your h
Nicholas, I've been doing this for a while now and I'm afraid it is not doable
via VoiceOver. It's one of those things that definitely require sighted
assistance unless you really want to go crazy with some kind of script or other
obscure method.

I can access Dropbox's selective sync preferences, but can't seem to adjust
them. It says that only checked folders will sync to this computer, but I can't
seem to uncheck any folders. There's no checkboxes. I've tried pressing
