Hi Jürgen, Try checking Fred while in System Prefs, closing System Prefs then going back in and unchecking him. Fred is one of the base English voices that is used in the setup process so even when it's not checked, I suspect that it is present in some manner. If your installation default was

Hi, I agree that from a VO prospective, this is certainly a bug. The workaround is to use System Prefs. Go into System Prefs, Accessibility, then select Speech from the table. The default System voice will be announced in the pop-up. Choose Customize from this menu and you can uncheck voice

Hi Alex, did you really check this? In High Sierra it is broken in that way that there are some voices in the rotor which are not checked in VoiceOver utilities and which I never would have checked like Fred. So, if you know a way of removing them I'd be more then delighted. Thanks, Jürgen V
