Alex,
Thanks for confirming this. For a couple weeks I felt alone but now everyone is seeing it too.

Hi all,
I think there were two things going on, and the bug is with the thing I wasn't looking for. I thought the question was just about removing foreign voices from the rotor, which I was able to get working perfectly by managing the entries in the right spot in the VO Utility.

The question now is about having English voices all in the rotor, despite their not being enabled. This I had not checked, but since everyone is finding it to be the case, I can only say that it must be a bug. Sorry for the miscommunication.

Hi Alex,

I know this, but it just doesn’t work.  I think you are speaking from the knowledge you have of how things should work but in this instance they don’t.  I’ve unchecked everything that possibly could be unchecked and I’m still having these voices enabled.  I hear from other members of this group that they are encountering the same issue.  It therefore is a bug.  Please tell me that you do work in the multilingual environment and that you do not encounter my problems.  That would make me think that there’s something wrong with my set up.  I did a clean install of High Sierra by the way.

If you look at the table of language options in VO Utility . Speech, you can see all the voices that are enabled. Simply remove one to disable it in your rotor, or add one to enable it.

If you uncheck them, they still show up on the rotor?  I'll have to look at that.

You can remove any voices from VoiceOver Utility by unchecking the boxes for the specific voice. Just choose, custom, as you would if you wanted to add voices. Once you do this, you won't see the voices in the rotor options.

Yes, I don't like that either. Let's hope Apple will change this quickly and not in 10.14.

Listers,

I must say i dislike the way the new voice rotor works.  Up until Sierra, if you needed more than one language to work with, you would customise the rotor by adding languages and then you would be able to choose the language you want on the fly by vo+command+arrow keys.  The issue in High Sierra is not that one needs the addition of the shift key to work but rather that I have some other languages in the rotor which I have not chosen and I can’t get rid of them.  Those of you who use more than one language, can you see the same behaviour?  Also, before High Sierra, when you chose a different language, the previous one you had been using was just the next in the list if you wanted to return to it, all you needed is one press of the key combination for the voices menu. In High Sierra you have to go back up the list if the voice you have chosen is the third or fourth, because the previous voice remains where it always has been in the list.  Could you test it for me?

Many thanks

Andrew
