switch to the dock via that unintentionally if you have the default command
set.
Also, do you have any applications docked or hovering around the top of the
bottom of the screen (vo+f1 twice quickly should show them).

* Under the Apple menu, in the Dock choice, either turn hiding on or off
depending on its current state.
