Thanks and I will save this information. I did another fresh install
of Ventura 13.6.6 but this time I did not use Migration Assistant. While
I was looking more closely at the Time Machine backup, I realized where
the trouble was. I will verify this another time but think Time Mach
I had googled earlier today and got a clue to where to look. Not at
all what I expected so will change how I handle documents in iCloud Drive.

found something in a Google search that indicates that one can only
import text files into Writer. So today I will go back to the TextEditor

to not use folders in some cases. For Voice Dream Reader, I unchecked
iCloud Drive as its storage but that did not make any difference.

my Documents folder, it opened in a kinda preview in Files, with a share button
at the bottom that brought up the share sheet. Was your RTF file perhaps in the

open iCloud drive, you simply use shift+Command+I. This will show as a normal
drive space on your computer but will shrink and expand as needed.

Actually, iCloud does store copies of your files on the local Mac. Copies
have to be kept locally so that synchronization can occur if you go without a
network connection and then are connected again. It keeps all files up to date
on the local system.

This wouldn't be a perfect solution, but AccessNote will read and write text
files on the iPhone. So, you can change an rtf file to text on the Mac, and
send it to Dropbox to go to the iPhone. That's round about, but I think it
would work if you needed to do that.
