I got no response to this before but asking again.
I had signed out of my account and signed back in on both the Mac
and on the Apple TV 4k. Issue still persists.
This is media that is on an external drive. I use the computer app
on the ATV. After I have watched an episode in

On the Mac in the Home Sharing option, the play count is enabled. It
does not work though so am wondering if there is another setting I need
