Hi Anne,
I actually figured that one out successfully :) As for my shortcut selection, I
disabled one of the services pertaining to Chinese--since I don't speak
Chinese--and used the CMD-Shift-C for the shortcut.

Hello Donna,
To enable the service New textEdit window containing selection, go to
SystemPreferences/Keyboard and select Short cuts. in the first table, select
Services, and in the second table, you need to go quite a long way down to find
Text. To set a short cut, I suggest you use something w
Thank you, Anne! Once again, you've saved the day. I missed the second X, and
now it works just as Barry said. I must say I'm moving into uncharted
territory today. I've never heard of the service you talk about below, but
sounds handy, I'll look into that next. :)
Thanks, Barry, Alex, and
Hello Donna,
VO doesn’t say anything when yu use these commands, but the second one is
Ctrl-x-x not just one x.
Have you activated and set a short cut for the service New TextEdit window
containing selection? It’s a quick way to verify that you’ve selected what you
wanted to select.
Cheers,
Sorry, one correction, the file format in which I'm prompted to save is RTFD.

Hmm. Well, this seems really cool, but I think you've gone beyond my depth.
It looks like I've done everything as you describe, but no joy. When I press
Ctrl-Space, VO is silent, again silent when I press Ctrl-X. I then try
pressing CMD-c to copy, and when I press CMD-V to paste the presumab
Hello,
I just created the document in TextEdit, having set it to plain text before
copying in all the information. I then just removed the .txt from the file name
and it worked perfectly. I’m pretty sure that UTF8 is set by default, so if you
haven’t changed that for some reason, there’s no nee
Hey Donna,
First you will need to go to the format menu and choose make plain text. That
will open another copy in text format. Then you should find the UTF8 plain
text incoding option in the save dialog. You will allso want to make sure to
uncheck the use .txt box.
I use emacs and many pe
Hi Barry,
OK, so I've got the folder in the right library, but when I try to save from
text Edit, UTF8 does not show up as an option.
Thanks,
Donna
P.S. If you didn't use Text Edit to create this file, what would you use?

Exactly.

Hi Donna,
You would access ~/Library by going to your home folder with command-shift-h
and go menu. In Yosemite and Mavericks, you can also make it visible by
checking the show library folder in view options.
~/Library is a Unix path and ~ means everything else after it is in your home
folder.
The tilde (~) character represents your Home folder. In other words,
/Users//library is the same thing as ~/library. Trying to save to
/library (the system's library folder, rather than yours) would have given you
that error.

Hi Bary,
This looks really interesting, but I have a couple of questions.
You said ~/library. I assume that's the folder that I access by going to
Macintosh HD, opening it, and going to library?
Second, I was able to create the folder there called keybindings, but when I
tried to save the fil
Hi Barry,
thanks for this clarification. I found out I named the file
DefaultKeybindings.dict and there’s an s too much. ;-) I corrected it and now
it works like a charm. :-)

Hi,
Actually, what I said was to put it in ~/Library. The ~ means home. I should
have been more clear though.
Did you name the file DefaultKeyBinding.dict?
Also, I recommend looking at the file and making sure that textedit didn’t put
a txt extension on it. I believe what may have happened
Hello Anne,
Glad it works for you.
Please post this wherever you like. I’m just sharing information I found and

Just to mention it: I’m running Mac OS Yosemite 10.10.2.

Hi Barry,
thanks a lot for your efforts. Sounds really great but it doesn’t work here. I
did the following:
• created the folder „KeyBindings“ in both library folders, because there was
no recommendation in which of the two I should do this.
• created a text document in Textedit with the content
Thanks, Barry. This is working for me.
Would you mind if I put this on my French website for other people to use?
Cheers,
Anne

This looks very interesting, and I didn’t see it earlier either. I’m going to
give it a try.
Thanks Barry

I can tell you how you can select text across page boundaries in Pages. I
explained this in an earlier post. So, I don’t know if you saw it and are not
interested, or if you didn’t see it, so I will post it again.
What you will be able to do is:
1. Move the insertion to a point on a page and
Hello Jürgen,
In TextEdit, set it to Wrap to window (Cmd-Shift-w) and you can select text in
the normal way. Pages, however, is a different story and it has been discussed
a great deal on this list. A sighted person can select text across page
boundaries in Pages as long as VoiceOver is turned
Hi there
Have you tried doing it from the menu? There is an option for select all under
edit. What happens if you do that?

Hi,
since Yosemite - at least am I aware of it since then - it’s not possible to
highlight text that contains more then one page of text.
I tried to highlight more then one page in Pages and Textedit pressing on top
of the page CMD + a or Shift + End. If I try to highlight text manually using
