Hello Donna, To enable the service New textEdit window containing selection, go to SystemPreferences/Keyboard and select Short cuts. in the first table, select Services, and in the second table, you need to go quite a long way down to find Text. To set a short cut, I suggest you use something with Cmd-Ctrl-Shift as these are not used by default by the system. I usually suggest Cmd-Ctrl-Shift-t for TextEdit.
