Not just that, but there's another section where function keys and other
shortcuts are assigned to launch things, two of which are Mission
Control and Launchpad. These should definitely be unchecked, as neither
of them is particularly useful or accessible to VoiceOver users.

I’ve had to resort to the old VO dash and plus for volume since my function
keys have suddenly started bringing up mission control. I did not make any
changes and have no memory of how this was changed. Help would be appreciated.

Hi. Thanks for the info for disabling keyboard shortcuts with Mission Control.
I never knew what this app was for because I couldn’t use it with Voiceover. I
just selected the dash key instead of control down or up arrow to activate

Thanks for that.
Seems to work great.

While I agree that all the keyboard shortcuts within Mission control are
not very useful for the VOiceOver user, I do sometimes use Mission Control,
mostly to check what windows are on separate desktops. But generally the
ability to see all windows or all windows from a specific application is
Try going into system prefs, under the keyboard option, then shortcuts tab.

Here is what happens.
SInce i use vmware fusion with Windows 7 and i only have a macbook air i can
not find the context menu key so i wanted to use shift f10 for that purpose.
But every time i press shift f10 the mission control pops up and it seems that

It's a way to get an overview of all your desktops and open apps. It shows
every window open in every app, for instance, so you can go right to that
window without switching to the app and using cmd-accent a bunch of times. I

Can somebody explain what exactly Mission Control is for and if it's

Actually what does the mission control do?
I have seen it in my dock but haven’t figured out what to use it for.

Mission control is usable with VoiceOver, but I am not sure of the
practical uses. However, here are some brief notes on it.

Hello All,
I am exploring Mission Control on my Mac because I have heard that you can set

I use VO up and down arrow literally all the time, and by itself, neither

hardware/software key toggle in Prefs/Keyboard; I.e., setting the function keys
to use hardware functions as opposed to software might alleviate the
Mission Control gives a sort of bird's-eye view of the screen. It's quite
visual. I figure that the dock and desktop are easy for me to get to, so I
don't bother with it.

If everyone hates Mission Control so much, does anyone know why it exists? I
mean, what good is it, and why might I want to use it, perhaps with a less
common keystroke?

Hi There,
I only unchecked two items, Control-Up Arrow and Control-Down arrow. Veronica
was correct in that any time I activated Mission Control, it related to
shutting up speech and hitting one of the arrows too quickly. If it turns out
other items need to be unchecked, I'll be vigila
Hello All especially Veronica.
Do you uncheck every check box? I hate Mission control and it was not clear
from veronica's instructions. Sorry if I'm missing someding.

Before I disabled the Mission Control keystroke, it would come up every time I
used VO-up-arrow, which contains the control-up-arrow keystroke. That's
probably what's happening in a lot of cases.

Hi Veronica,
Well, thanks for this. I've inadvertently activated Mission Control and am
glad to get rid of it. I had two keystrokes to deal with, Control-Up and
Control-Down Arrow. I could uncheck the boxes without interacting, so not sure
why you had to do so, but the end result wa
Hey, no problem. But the first time I accidentally hit that
keystroke and heard that swoosh, I just about jumped out of my skin. I
think that's the real problem, when you're really concentrating and then

Thanks.

Oh, please excuse me; I didn't mean to imply that you'd been careless or
negligent. *smile* I just haven't experienced the conditions in which it's
invoked very often. Yep, there it is, and Escape banishes it back. Hmmm.

Mark, it comes up when you hit the control key to silence VO, as in starting to
read the subject, date and all the info for an email message. If you then hit
the down-arrow too quickly, intending to go to the next message, bingo! You've
opened Mission control. I did this a lot in the early
Can I just ask, what does everyone use Control up and or down arrow to do?
Mission Control has come up only very seldom with me, usually because of a typo
involving Control arrows. I'm just curious why it comes up for so often for so
many.

Mission Controls' preferences are in System Preferences under Apple. I don't

Christine, it's because the command to get into Mission control is
control-down-arrow. All it takes is to hit the control key to shut up
speech, then hit the down-arrow a little too soon and there you are.

Hello all,
I've been playing around with creating and using extra desktops/spaces but
can't see how you can remove an empty one. Obviously they don't do any harm -
you can forget they're there - but I'm sure there must be a way to close them
when no longer needed?
Thanks,
