To add to Tim’s response, beginning with Big Sur, some alerts or dialogues
cannot be acted upon as they were in earlier versions of macOS.
In these situations, you may find it necessary to use the Actions menu in order
to interact with the alert.
To access the Actions menu, press VO + CMD + Space
Thank you so much, I finally figured out what was running in the background. I
think the App Store bit will still take some playing around with though.

the specific alerts. Press return to access the alert. With respect to
