To add to Tim’s response, beginning with Big Sur, some alerts or dialogues cannot be acted upon as they were in earlier versions of macOS. In these situations, you may find it necessary to use the Actions menu in order to interact with the alert. To access the Actions menu, press VO + CMD + Spacebar, to open the Actions menu, then use the up/down arrow keys to navigate the choices in the menu, and then press the Enter key to activate your selection.
With respect to Application updates in the AppStore app, once in the update section, accessed using CMD + NumberRow 8, you will need to interact with the Details area in order to access individual app updates. There are 2 sections in the Details area to be aware of, the Available section, and the Previously Installed section. You will need to interact with the Available section in order to access pending updates. Each pending update will need to be interacted with in order to perform the install button for that update. Alternatively, you may find a ToolBar, that may be interacted with, where you will find an Update All button, if you wish to not interact with each pending update individually.
