I had another app from Abbyy that was a bonus. It is almost
identical in functionality but does not offer as many format choices. It
works! I will stop tinkering for now. Cheers.

Instant text was available in Ventura but you do require compatible hardware
and it's much improved in Sequoia. Try interacting with the images.
But, yes, unless you're really happy going the whole hog with Abbyy, I'd say
Prizmo (or maybe VueScan, if you're happy tinkering) are probably your bes
Hi,
Have you checked to see if your scanner manufacturer offers free software?
I’m using an HP scanner/printer. The software that was installed during setup
didn’t do the scanning I wanted. So I installed HP Easy Scan and it allows me
to scan documents and save them as images,, searchable pdfs,
What I need to do is put certain paper documents into a format that
is accessible. I tried Preview on Ventura to see what the results were.
Just scanned images. Not useful.

I mean, Sequoia can technically do that already with built-in tools
ImageCapture and Preview.
Just how accurate do you need this to be? Are you going to use this for
reference, or do you just need to take a peek at the important text of a letter
to figure out what it is for instance?

Too expensive for what I need. Will keep looking. Mostly I want to
scan a paper document and convert to a format such as PDF or Word.

Hi E.T.
I am still using PDF Pen 13. As long as It continues to work with Sequoia, I do
not need to try the Nitro version. so I can’t say how well it works.
But it seems to be really expensive.

$179 annually.
They offer a 14 day free trial.

Robert,
Yes I have heard of PDF Pen and that Nitro took it over. How well
does it work under Nitro? I don't mind subscriptions but only for apps
that are worthy. Does this app offer an annual subscription?

Hi,
I use PDF Pen, But they sold out to Nitro. It is called Nitro PDF Pro and is a
subscription.
I know you don’t want suvscriptions, but have you heard of SetApp?
It is like an app store that allows you to use any app that they offer for
$9.99 per month.
I used it for a while last year.

Subscription? Interesting. When I launch the app, there is no clue
regarding this. Perhaps this explains why the tasks are dimmed.

Well, Abbyy did move to subscription, so there’s that.
The only other contender would be Prizmo. It doesn’t do quite the same great
job of extracting semantics from the print, but if you just want OCR for the
text itself, it’s fine.

Is there any reason you don’t want to use Abbyy? It’s worked really well for me
overall.
