I've attached a mwe of a multiline equation. I've inserted vphantom to try
to make the closing } the same size as the initial {, but for some reason
in the pdf output the closing } looks smaller. In the lyx onscreen (not
preview) it actually looks correct. Using lualatex for processing.

Using the measurement tool in Adobe Reader, it seems both braces have the same
length; see the attachment. Did you print the pdf and measure the lengths?
