I'd strongly discourage using anything but 'c', 'r' or 'l' in these places
unless you do not intend to use the file in connection with LyX in the near
future.

Hallo lyxers,
I am using lyx 1.1.6 fix 1 and the textstyle "book".
To manage the bibliography i am useing bibtex with the package "natbib"
in order provide the havard-method.

hey
I am using the standard debian packages for lyx. I think all my questions
could be answered if the examples and templates worked.
Trying to view dvi of any of the examples always results in lots of errors

There is no need, any of the example files that come with lyx will do the
trick. They all come up with the error given, or font errors on
emphasised text.
Standard text/titles/sections all work fine though.
have fun,

Hi,
I am a longtime LaTeX user, but new to LyX.
So, apologies for this silly question:
I am trying to include references from my bibtex file.
This is what I have done so far:
1. I have inserted a bibtex reference at the end of my lyx document.
2. I have inserted a citation into my document

I have a buch of .mf files in a special dir under my LateX tree that I need
to "make available" to metafont. The installation instructions I am reading
say moreover that I need to "make" some fonts, whose names the documentation
lists.
I have looked through some documentation for metafont, and

Ok, thanks for pointing me in the direction of the /tmp directory.
There was no problem with the installation (1.16fix3 from .rpm on RH6.2)
The answer is (for future reference): supply the full (absolute) path to
the .bib file. (no ~/myfile.bib, ../myfile.bib, etc.)
All's well now.

I guess you've started by insrting the Bibtex references at the end of
your document otherwise the little gray boxes with the citation ref would
not appear.
Do a view on your document, you should see the correct references
Otherwise ...
Check .lyx/lyxrc for the pipe and delete the lyxpipe files
