I need your help hints,ideas,howto knowledge.
1. I am running debian unstable and will probably install
the LyX version that is in there (currently lyx 1.1.5fix2-1)
Or I can probably be talked into compiling myself if needed.

Xfig can handle this and exports to (usually pretty small) postscript files.

\usepackage{setspace}
and in the float
\onehalfspacing
...blah...
\singlespacing
should do the trick

I am thinking of writing an article for publication in JLTP
(Journal of Low Temperature Physics) and was wondering if anybody has
produced a .layout file from the jltp.cls (Latex 2e) file supplied by the
publisher? If so, would you be prepared to let me have a copy?

thanks very much for your excellent help. I don't know why I am not
able to do the [hb] by typing within the float (it always appears as text
also I changed to Tex-mode). But nevertheless it works by coppying your
exmple within Lyx.

I just installed lyx-1.1.5fix2-1.i386.rpm and xforms-0.88-15.i386.rpm on
my RedHat 7.0 system; the former from the LyX FTP site and the latter
from the RedHat 7.0 Powertools CD. Now, I've seen a lot of complaints on
this list about this combination, but it seems to work here with RedHa
I've been trying for some time to get the newest version of lyx to
work on my OpenBSD box. As far as I know, the last version which
compiled properly on OpenBSD was 1.1.4 - the version in the OpenBSD
ports tree is 1.0.0!
