You can test quickly this command from a shell:
env [EMAIL PROTECTED] lyx
in bash you can do this two steps:
export [EMAIL PROTECTED]
lyx &
in tcsh :
setenv LANG [EMAIL PROTECTED]
lyx &

I can work with lyx in spanish with LANG equals to: es_CO.UTF-8 or
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

the spanish "ñ", and all the other programs (including xedit) accept all
the vowels.
