I am trying to use IEEEtrans and lyx. First I retrieved the IEEE files
from:
http://www.educat.hu-berlin.de/~voss/lyx/data/IEEE.tgz
and I made IEEEtran.cls and IEEEtran.layout available to lyx. Then I try
to process the sample file IEEEtran.lyx (after selecting edit->
reconfigure and
s051.pfb -URW-Standard Symbols L-medium-r-normal.-0-urw-fontspecific

Then restart the X server (or reboot if you do not know how to do

In the same line that Peter I use:
\href{run:animate_up.bat}
this command simply executes the script file animate_up.bat, that in my
case contains the command "animate slide8/up.gif". (By the way, run only
accepts one parameter, that is, \href{run:animate slide8/up.gif is
invalid}

I just installed lyx 1.1.6fix2 in my linux machine (redhat 7.0) using
the rpm binaries. I use pdflatex and acrobat reader to visualize the
documents ( view->pdflatex), this used to work without problems in lyx
