How would I add such headings (and their associated page numbers) as Abstract,
Acknowledgments, Table of Contents, List of Figures, etc. to my Table of Contents? If
I just use Chapter or Section then they are numbered 0.1, etc. I guess I am really

I was given this nice piece of code to put in my LaTeX preamble and it works great in

Hi out there!
I got Lyx on my WinXP pro (I don't think it's worth installing Linux just for this
prog).
At the beginning everything was just fine. Sometimes Lyx (or better Cygwin)
disappeared without a warning, but that was only mildly annoying. But the day before
yesterday Lyx refused to show

I've written a HOWTO for installing LyX on MacOSX, including procedures
for integrating LyX into the MacOSX drag-and-drop and double-click
interface. See http://www.18james.com/lyx_on_osx.html -- comments and
suggestions welcome.
LyX is a delight with the speed and crisp display of the Mac and
I am afraid you didn't put the extra options into the
LAYOUT/DOCUMENT/Extra Options:
e.g. azure1,ps,accumulate,slideColor,nocolorBG
The 1st one is the style file. You may change it.
I've checked these options were in the layout file, but I
don't know why lyx 1.2.1 does not load them as lyx1.1.6.

Hi,
I want to put im my document something like this:
Note 1. Blah, blah...
Note 2. Another blah...
I used the amsart-sequencial layout, which defines the "Note"
environment. The problem is that LyX does not allow me to put two notes
in sequence. It insists in puting all text in the same note.
The problem is that if I insert 2 figures in a float the label for each of
them (subfigures) will be preceeded by (a) or (b), for example
** ***
(a) Figure 1 (b) Figure 2
It is not possible to insert a float into another.

I think minitoc does this.

You can insert two figures side by side in a figure float if you prefer.
And with labels and separate text for each one (somewhere in the insert
figure dialog window).

Hi,
I encountered the problem that my floats were not placed according to
the !tbp settings in the document layout dialog.
When I exported my document to tex I saw that most figures had htbp
placement settings. When I remember well, these are the figures I
inserted before switching to 1.2.x.

I am writing a one-column article. How can I insert two figure floats,

Hello all,
doe anyone know how to do this:
I've set the distance between alinea's to a fixed 4mm, but sometimes, when a new
alinea starts it starts on the end of a page, having only one or two lines on the end
of the page.
Which is ugly.
How can I make an alinea start on a new page if it would
Hi all,
I'm using amsbook for a large dutch book.
I (well, actualy the writer... not me) want to start every chapter with a page with
the chapter name and a table of content containing only the contents of that chapter.
Doe anyone know how to do that?
Cheers,
Jeroen.
