thank you for the tips. I got lyx-1.2.0pre1 running without putting in
peril my thesis!
I got a irreproducible core dump while doing emacs-like control
sequence in non-emacs-keymap, while not running in gdb (I'll use it
from now on).

just a short report of successful installating lyx-1.2.0pre1 on Linux
(Debian 3.0, gcc 2.95.4) : ./configure ; make ; make install works
fine.
As previously noted, the bind/*.bind files are not exactly
compatible, and I got some complains about some functions not
existing anymor
