I'll see what I can do. Those are both strong points. Fortunately, the next
version of Ubuntu (due in October) will ship with the latest version of LyX.
I've also created the packages on Launchpad, so I think it's just a matter of

since all stability issues with Qt 4.6 seem to be sorted out now, so
that distributors can ship a version of LyX that runs smoothly with
