C-M, and this is precisely why we need something like a \rawtex box.

I agree that rendering ERT obsolete is a worthy goal. However, there have
been several instances in which I was unable to do something within LyX due
to poor math ERT support. Personally, I greatly prefer typing LyX math
instead of raw LaTeX, but I think lots of people are turned off by LyX's

I grepped the source code for cmsy10, which provides mathcal, and found
qfont_loader.C. In here, one sees that the missing font is called eufm10:
