I agree that rendering ERT obsolete is a worthy goal. However, there have
been several instances in which I was unable to do something within LyX due
to poor math ERT support. Personally, I greatly prefer typing LyX math
instead of raw LaTeX, but I think lots of people are turned off by LyX's
inability to handle raw LaTeX in math.
A simple way I propose to remedy this matter would be to create a math mode
"\rawtex" box that would behave similarly to \textrm, allowing users to
enter TeX without LyX parsing it. This would be invaluable to anyone trying
to use advanced features such as commutative diagrams.
