Having done as Lars requested I've found that in changing from 1.0.0-pre2
to 1.0.0-pre4 the latex command "\today" no longer works. I have both
binaries still available. With 1.0.0-pre2 I get the correct date stamp,
ie November 26, 1998. However with 1.0.0-pre4 I get "protect toda
