Could it possibly be your downloaded image was damaged/ corrupted Lars?
I just downloaded the image and am not seeing any of the download speed
issues you mentioned, I guess there is something wrong on your end, maybe
you have network congestion?

Mmh ok, well you should still be able to finish the installation. I must
say I'm not too familiar with the alternate install images. How barebone
are they supposed to be? I'm at my terminal and would have to edit my
sources.list to get stuff installed but of course no desktop, no vim, no
nano only

@BR:
Alt install was supposed to be just the files to be installed, not bootable
as "live desktop" . . . . So, should fit on CD and simply run the install;
downside, no way to test it out before installing it.

Ok it does indeed seem to fail at fetching something but it does NOT seem
to be crucial, so no show stopper!! Installation can continue (press arrow
down to the next step and press enter) and finishes successfully.

Woah ok, gonna download asap, tho with the alternate build we had so far
there definatley seemed something off, like missing pakets, no core/basic

Skimming through the "problems" I see apparently ppc desktop, which until
recently we did not have was not affected but from what I described in the
earlier mail, and lars reported sounda like the ppc alternate build was
affected!?

Based on this I second your suspicion our alternate ppc build was affected
by the manifest hickup as well and thats the result, but what caused it?

Good news, so far the ppc desktop image runs fine (G5 Power Mac, 600MHZ fsb
variant, 1,8 GhZ, 1GB RAM, Nvidia pcix card) live boot, it just works,
software rendering, but working out of the box, not even had to use any
manual workarounds yet, did not expect that ^^

So there is now a live desktop 14.04.2 for ppc available to download and
test? And there is reasonable expectation that it will at least be
boot-able?

It works, but known workarounds still apply (eg. for Radeon or Nvidia
cards), for me on this powermac G5 as mentioned earlier live boot simply
worked, install would need known nvidia workarounds tho as at that point it
would simply freeze otherwise but that is nothing new, no show stopper and
