I have an external DVD burner which has worked in the past with PPC, though not
everyone has that. I'll use that for my tests this weekend.

No, this was definitely from the alternate. I burned it to a CD from my Mac

I have to do the same thing when installing to get usable graphics, but on
my Mac Mini, after the installation, I don't have to retype the

I only have the video configuration that I enter, though: I don't have an
option to change from 1024x768 to 800x600 or 640
I'll try the alternate when I get back to my studio this weekend. (I'll
also burn the desktop installer to a DVD to be sure it works, too.)
Since a lot of Mac Mini users have just the SuperDrive that only burns CDs,
the alternate will probably see more use this time around.
Is there a way to make
The 9/18 PPC disc booted up great from my Mac Mini and installation was

I'm still using the 7/23 build here, it might be fixed in the 7/26 build,
but I wanted to raise the issue anyway.
I was able to install 13.10 without encryption successfully. However, when

Yes, I burned the image to a DVD and was able to boot my Mac Mini from it.
I haven't checked everything in the live disc yet (and won't be able to
until Thursday), but I have at least gotten to a desktop screen.

Man, I let you guys down. I apologize.

There's also Bug #1194319, which is still under investigation, but it
prevents me from fully testing LiveCDs.

If you don't even get to the yaboot screen white text on a black
background), I'm at a loss to figure out what to do next.

Nothing appearing on the screen is probably because at the yaboot prompt
you need to type in something:
On my mac mini, I use
live video=radeonfb:1024x768-32@60
Replace 1024x768 with the native resolution of the monitor you're using,
and 60 with the refresh rate of the monitor.

Just an addition to what I reported earlier: from the terminal window in

The last Live CD that worked for me is one from June 13. (I did not try

Back to the original topic of the email, I just downloaded the 06/23 PPC
isos (both desktop and alternate). The desktop hung on me the same as on
06/21 and 06/22. I put my 1GB chip back into my system thinking that having
only 256MB RAM might be the problem, but it still hangs with 1GB RAM.

I downloaded the image and burned it with Xfburn on the Mac Mini.
Booting up from the CD is typical with yaboot: I put in the radeon line to
boot to the Mini.

Wait, I've *always* been burning disks to test on my Mac Mini. I didn't
know there was another way.
I feel so n00bish.
That said, I'll stick with burning them. It allows me to test xfburn as
part of my personal tests of the usability of Lubuntu on the Mac Mini.

Last night, I removed the 1GB stick from my PPC Mac Mini and put in the
stock 256MB RAM. From the Mini's perspective, this will be the smallest
amount of RAM ever used.
Saucy installed, although I have no clue how long it took (less than 8
hours, though). The process appeared to be frozen at times
Just something I noticed with Gnash on 13.10 PPC ... the mozilla plugin is
not installed by default. This means that YouTube on Firefox tries HTML5,
which has a lowest resolution of 360p. At least on my Mac Mini (1.25 Ghz

Hey,
Just curious: I know that there's some text when you boot up from the
LubuntuPPC disk that suggests a video option if the default doesn't work.
At least on my Mac Mini, that option "live video=ofonly" doesn't work
either. I have to remember to type: "live video=radeonfb:1024x768-32@60".
