At some point in my adsl history, I had a very similar problem.
Setting client MTUs to 1456 (wasn't it that?) didn't work any more.
I had to reduce it to 1440. Did someone add another tunnel layer or

One trick I use when a console locks is to log in via the network
and just run chvt. On Slackware, for example, X runs on VT2,
and a spare console on VT6. Usually I only need to 'chvt 6; sleep
5; chvt 2' and I regain control. (Only 'chvt 6' is needed, but why
not change it back?)

You're right on with the ljet4 driver. The problem is samba. (It
works directly connected..) You need disable cr-lf translation.
Look in the smbprint(??) file. The binary data is getting garbled,
similar to ftp in ascii mode. It's coincidence that the page is ok
(or almost ok) until half way
FWIW, I find hose and faucet useful. I commonly use two scripts to
do simple file transfer. 'tar' is the "protocol".. ;)

Try CIPE instead. I almost went for that option but what you are
describing sounds typical of what the cipe people warn about. I've been
using cipe for about a month and love it. It encapsulates everything in
encrypted udp packets. My telnet sessions to the other end actually
