I've always terminated my cresc/decres with \!
I found that in the docs a while ago, but is that still the case?

Try Get Info on one of the files and change the program used for all.
I have the same issue, but haven't dug into it yet.

I've used Lunbuntu, Mint and Ubuntu Budgie and had no troubles getting
Lilypond and Frescobaldi installed. Both are packaged and integrate into
the menu systems.
The smoothest experience is Linux Mint. The other 2 are fine, but Mint is
very refined.
