Don't worry, I've not lost patience; however, you seem to not be
hearing me. I understand that two methods of using lilypond did not
work for you: the GUI application that comes with lilypond, and a
script for terminal use. There are other ways of using lilypond. I'm

No. For good reasons about this, see

Having seen this, I would suggest first to re-download, and see if
that solves the problem. Then I would suggest to try compiling from

I have been using ConTEXT on my Win XP machine. It's freeware, and has
Lilypond highlighting. I've been very happy with it. It's simple and kind,
but has formatting not normally available in NotePad.
Check it out at:

You can direct Frescobaldi to save files with DOS line-endings (CR+LF) by
setting Tools->Line Endings to "Windows/DOS" :)

As far as I can tell wordpad does support UTF-8, at least in Vista and Win7.

I use plain old notepad in my Windows PC. You can only save as text

You won't have to rename the .txt to .ly.

Personally I use wordpad and make sure that I save in plain text.
When I first save the file I go back and rename it for a .ly extension and from

Then I can drag and drop the file on the lilypond icon or right-click on the
