in the illusion that it was that easy, I just compiled pango and installed
it before compiling lilypond. However, after a few of my own pieces were
translated by lilypond quite well, I tried to "make web". That failed when
pango tried to load the hebrew module.

I note the prerequisites include pango 1.6 or higher - any experience or
concerns about using the latest version, pango 1.8.1, that could save me
frustration in getting that set up? Or should I stick with 1.6.x

Pango/FontConfig integration is proceeding. The last status is that
--format=ps now produces credible results in the PS output, and that
the dimensions of bounding boxes are computed correctly. The current
